Faith Kipyegon gifts super fan her World Championship winning vest

Newly crowned 5,000m world champion Faith Kipyegon has gifted one of her fans her winning jersey from the just concluded World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

In his statement, the fan, Jordan Guenther revealed how much Kipyegon’s gift was a surprise to her.

“After going to see the alpacas this morning I went up to greet a few Kenyan friends I’ve been spending time with… little did I know I would be surprised and Faith would be the one to open the door after knocking. Super thankful and this is something I will never forget,” Mr Guenther said.

“She (Kipyegon) said it was a token of appreciation for the support over the years. I’ve seen her run in person at 5 world championships, 2 Olympics, countless diamond league meets and other races over the past 10+ years. Let’s go Kenya ,” said Guenther.

During the World Athletics Championships, Mr Guenther has been going live from Budapest, Hungary, whenever Kenyans were on the race track and cheering them on to victory.

He celebrated Mary Moraa’s victory in the women’s 800m final saying “David Rudisha and I approve of the gold medal dance!” as he shared a photo of himself with the Kenyan athletics legend.

Kipyegon and Moraa are the only Kenyan athletes who won gold medals in Budapest where Kenya finished fifth with 10 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze).

Kipyegon was the toast of the Kenyan team after she did an unprecedented double in the 1,500m and 5,000m races while Moraa reigned supreme in the 800m race.

“This has been an amazing year for me. Making history yesterday, winning two gold medals in a championships is what I was dreaming for this season. My dream just came true, it is amazing. I have been consistent, focused on the finish line and on writing history. I will continue to push myself in the future,” Kipyegon said following her victories.

“My daughter gives me amazing support, she always tells me I can do it. Lastly, I want to thank my amazing team, my coach, my management and all amazing fans!” she added.

Kenya’s silver medallists were Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (10,000m), Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800m) and Beatrice Chepkoech (3,000m steeplechase) while Abraham Kibiwot (3,000m steeplechase) Beatrice Chebet (5,000m), Jacob Krop (5,000m) and Faith Cherotich (3,000m steeplechase) bagged bronze medals.

Athletes who represented Kenya in Budapest are set to jet back home on Monday evening in three groups. The first group will arrive at 2pm, the second at 9pm and the third at 9:45pm. Kipyegon will be in the second group to arrive home.
